කොග්ගල කෞතුකාගාරය

1890 මැයි මස 29 වන දින උපත ලැබූ මාර්ටින් වික්‍රමසිංහයන් ශ්‍රී ලාංකීය ලේඛන කලාව පෝෂණය කිරීමට ඉමහත් දායකත්වයක් ලබාදුන් කෙනෙකි. මෙතුමන්ගේ සංකල්පයකට අනුව කොග්ගල කෞතුකාගාරය 1981 වර්ෂයේ නොවැම්බර් මස මාර්ටින් වික්‍රමසිංහ භාරකාර මණ්ඩලය විසින් ස්ථාපිත කරන ලදී. 

නරඹන්නන්  හට ලංකාවේ ජන සංස්කෘතික උපකරණ, ජන සංස්කෘතික ජීවන රටාවන් ඇතුළු බොහෝ දේවල්  බලා ගැනීටම හැකියාවක් තිබෙනවා.ලංකාවේ වාසය කළ සියලු ජන කොට්ටාශ වලට අයත් සෑම දෙයක්ම මෙම ස්ථානයේදී  බලාගැනීමට හැකියාවක් තිබෙනවා

පියවරේ අපිත් මේ පිළිබද විස්තර සොයාබැලීමක් කළේ ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ සංස්කෘතිකමය වටිනාකම් ලොවට විදහාපාන තවත් එක් අපුරු ස්ථානයක් පිළිබද තොරතුරු බෙදාහදා ගැනීමේ අරමුණෙන්.

කොග්ගල  කෞතුකාගාරයේ නැරබීමට ඇති දේවල් පහත දැක්වෙන පරිදි වර්ගීකරණය කර ඇත.

මෙහි ඇති තවත් එක් සුවිශේෂී කරුණක් වන්නේ අක්කර 11 ට අසන්න භුමි ප්‍රමාණය යන එන සංචාරකයන්ගේ ගිමන් නිවා ගැනීම සදහා අපූරු ස්ථානයක් වීමයි.දේශීය ශාක වගා කර ඇති මෙම භුමිය ඕනෑම කෙනෙකුට විවේකිව ගත කිරීමටද අවස්ථාව සලසා දීමි. කොන්ක්‍රීට් වනාන්තරවලින් ඔබ්බට ගිය අපුරු ගැමි පරිසරයක්, ගැමි සංස්කෘතියක් සමග අත්විදීමට මෙය කදිම ස්ථානයකි

කොස්ගොඩ කැස්බෑවන් සංරක්ෂණ ව්‍යාපෘතිය

ලංකාවේ අපුරු නොදුටු තැන් සොයා ගිය ගමනේ තවත් එක් පියවරක්, කොස්ගොඩ කස්බැවන් සංරක්ෂණ ව්‍යාපෘතිය සිදු කෙරෙන ස්ථානය වෙත අපි තොරතුරු සොයා ගියා. කැස්බෑවන් සංරක්ෂණය සිදු කරන්නේ ඇයි? කොස්ගොඩ වෙරල තීරයේ තිබෙන සුවිශේෂත්වය මොකක්ද? මෙම ව්‍යාපෘතියේ තිබෙන විශේෂත්වය ආදී කාරණා රැසක් අපි විමසුවා. 

කැස්බෑවන් බිත්තර දැමීම සදහා වෙරළතීරයන් පැමිණෙන අතර මිනිසුන් මෙම බිත්තර ආහාරයට ගැනීම කවුරුත් දන්නා කියන කරුණකි. මෙම හේතුව නිසාම කැස්බෑවන් වඳ වීමේ අවදානමක් පවතී. කැස්බෑවන් විශාල වශයෙන් කොස්ගොඩ වෙරළ තීරය බිත්තර දැමීමට බාවිතා කරයි. එම නිසා මෙම සංරක්ෂණ ව්‍යාපෘතිය සඳහා වඩාත් යෝග්‍ය ස්ථානය වන්නේ කොස්ගොඩ වෙරළ තීරයි. බොහෝ පෞද්ගලික ආයතන මෙය ව්‍යාපාරයක් ලෙස කරගෙන යන නමුත් කොස්ගොඩ ව්‍යාපෘතිය මනා ලෙස අදීක්ෂණයකින් යුතුව කෙරෙන සංරක්ෂණ ව්‍යාපෘතියකි.කැස්බෑවන් නිසි ලෙස සංරක්ෂණය කිරීමට නම් මනා ලෙස විද්‍යාත්මක මාර්ගෝපදේශයක් තිබිය යුතුයි.මේ වන විට කැස්බෑ සංරක්ෂණ ව්‍යාපෘති 7 කට ආසන්න ප්‍රමාණයක් ක්‍රියාත්මක වේ.  කස්බෑවගේ ආයු කාලය වසර සියයකි. මෙහි කළමණාකරු වන ඩඩ්ලි පෙරේරා මහතාගේ අදහස වුයේ හැකි තරම් කාලයක් මෙම සංරක්ෂණය කරගෙන යාමට ඔවුන්ගේ බලාපොරොත්තුව බවයි. උපතින්ම අබාදිත වූ කැස්බෑවන්ද මෙහි සුරක්ෂිත ලෙස සිටින අයුරු දැකබලා ගැනීමට හැකියාව තිබෙනවා.

MASK MAKING IN SRI LANKA

Masks are made from the timber of a tree locally known as “kaduru”. This tree grows in marshy lands borderingthe paddy fields. Its stem is covered with a bark which sheds a milky liquid like latex. Its wood is soft and easy to cut. When dried, it is very light and resembles “Balsa”. The English term of this variety is Nux vomica.

Masks are classified as Raksha, Kolam and Sanni. All these three varieties are used for dancing and decorative purposes. Raksha Masks are often seen in processions and festivals. The Kolam Masks are utilized for staging comic plays depicting ancient stories. Sanni Masks are used in devil dancing ceremonies to cure illnesses. Infact, there are about twenty four kinds of rakshas known by different names such as Naga Raksha, Gurulu Raksha, Maru Raksha etc.

RAKSHA

Naga Raksha (Cobra Mask)
Legend has that Sri Lanka was earlier ruled by a race known as Rakshas whose king was Rwana ( of the Rama Rawana Legend). The Rakshas could take various life forms; one being the cobra. When the Rakshas take the form the cobras, they frighten the other inhabitants where they faint form fear. The Cobras then carried away their victims to be their slaves.

Gurulu raksha (Mask Of the Bird)
When the cobra rakshas were terrifying the other innocent inhabitants and taking them as slaves, the victimspleaded the protection of Gurulu Raksha; the powerful enemy of the Cobras or Nagas. The Gurulu Raksha arrives and drives the Nagas away. The Gurulu is a bird like the hawk which preys mainly on snakes particularly on cobras.


Maru Raksha (Mask of the Demon of Death)
It is the Maru Raksha who decides the life of an individual and determines when a person should die. It was believed that by invoking the blessing of this Raksha by performing his dance where death could be delayed.

Maha Kolam Sanni is comprised of 18 different types and each one is useful in curing a particular kind of illnessas listed below.

2. Vata Sanniya-- The Demon of diseases caused by wind
3. Pith Sanniya- The Demon of diseases caused by bile
4. Amukku Sanniya- The Demon who causes fits of vomiting
5. Naga Sanniya- The Demon of Fainting and Swooning
6. Ginijala Sanniya- The Demon who causes fever
7. Selesma Sanniya- The Demon of diseases caused by phlegm
8. Kapala Sanniya- The Demon of lunacy
9. Maru Sanniya- The Demon of death
10. Kadavata Sanniya- Expurgation of the morbid state
11. Kora Sanniya- The Demon of lameness
12. Buhutha Sanniya- The Demon of madness
13. Kana Sanniya- The Demon of blindness
14. Jala Sanniya- The Demon of cholera
15. Bihiri Sanniya- The Demon of deafness
16. Golu Sanniya- The Demon of dumbness
17. Vevulum Sanniya- The Demon of fits
